BBC Two commissions a brand new series of the iconic pop quiz show, as Rhod joins Noel Fielding and Phill Jupitus

Iconic pop quiz, Never Mind the Buzzcocks returns to BBC Two later this year with a brand new full-time host - Welsh comedian, Rhod Gilbert will join regular team captains Noel Fielding and Phill Jupitus for the 28thseries of the anarchic comedy pop quiz show.

A sell-out sensation at the Edinburgh Festival every year from 2005-2012, Rhod is a hugely successful stand-up comedian – his debut live DVDwas released in 2009 and claimed the title for the years’ fastest selling debut stand-up DVD.

Rhod has a wealth of music and comedy knowledge and as apreviousguest host on Buzzcocks, stands in good stead to inject an indomitable spirit to the powerhouse panel.

Rhod Gilbert said: “After my first Buzzcocksin 2009, I was told I was in with a shout to take over as regular host, and now, just 5 years later, I got the call.  It has all happened so fast. Never Mind the Buzzcocksis one of those rare shows that feels like it belongs on our screens, it's an institution, in a good way. It's a great honour to be asked to take the reins full time and to hang out with Noel and Phill, and I'm equally excited and nervous about adding my name to those who have hosted it in the past."

As ever, the team captains will be joined each week by guest panellists from the world of music, TV and comedy. With the shows ability to attract unpredictable guests, they will face the challenge of dealing with a whole host of outrageous goings-on, such as:Ordinary Boysfrontman, Preston’s walk-out after extracts of his wife’s autobiography were read aloud; an outburst that only served as a precursor toFun Lovin' Criminals’frontman, Huey Morgan’s famed smashing strop – smashing a mug and then storming off the show after being asked to guess his own lyrics by guest hosts Rizzle Kicks.

The 13x30 series has been commissioned by Controller of Entertainment Commissioning Mark Linsey and Ruby Kuraishe, Commissioning Editor for BBC Entertainment, and is Talkback production for BBC Two. James Longman is Executive Producer for Talkback with Suzanne McManus for BBC.

Mark Linsey says:  “Rhod is the perfect host for Buzzcocks. He has great knowledge of music and fantastic comedy talent that will brilliantly complement Noel and Phill.”

Leon Wilson, Talkback MD commented: “It’s a great thrill to welcome Rhod to Britain’s funniest music quiz.

As host, he’ll be steering the good ship Buzzcocks through the choppy waters of our guest panellists, hilariously aided and abetted by our brilliant regular team captains and music aficionados Noel and Phill.”

Filming for Never Mind the Buzzcocksbegins later in the year for Autumn transmission.
